GEJUN HUANG

Greetings!
I am a game industry scholar & media sociologist
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Communica at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (Suzhou, China). I received my Ph.D. in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. My research has touched on the Chinese digital game industry, media entrepreneurship, cultural policy, digital privacy, and the digital divide. You can find my research published in peer-reviewed journals such as Big Data & Society, Cultural Trends, International Journal of Communication, Chinese Journal of Communication, American Behavioral Scientist, and among others.
Aside from my academic responsibilities, I enjoy engaging with and serving the broader gaming communities. I am the Secretary of the Chinese DiGRA Board (中华电子游戏研究协会 / 中華 數位遊戲研究協會), a regional chapter of the Digital Research Association. I have also arranged the screening of “Indie Games in China” in Austin, TX to promote the indie production culture of the Chinese digital game industry alongside Chinese indie game titles. On top of all, I am a longtime gamer passionate about RPG, FPS, and RTS genres. My favorite titles are Bioshock 3, Battlefield 1, Chinese Paladin 1, Bloodborne, and Command & Conquer 3.
